We are Emmanuel Baptist Church: a church plant who seeks to bring the Gospel to the community of New Caney, Texas.
In 2010, Northeast Houston Baptist Church embarked on a plan to plant churches in needed places around the city of Houston. NEHBC commissioned a study led by experts in relevant fields to make an extensive report of growth and demographic trends and projections in Houston. After 18 months of intense study, there was one main finding.
Houston is reaching capacity to the south, which means abundant growth is pushing northward. This new sprawl of population is numbered in the hundreds of thousands of people—some say one million. Situated at the intersection of the Grand Parkway and I-69, New Caney is the coming epicenter of much of the Houston area growth with 11,000 new homes projected to be built in the coming months. Therefore, New Caney is a prime spot for a church plant.
In the fall of 2016, John and Katherine Powell were chosen to lead the church plant. In October, John met with NEHBC leadership to begin discussing which families and individuals would join the church plant. Over the next several months, he and Katherine met with those families and individuals. By January of this year, the core group was formed.
Together, the core team is diligently working to form key components of several ministry areas including children, student, adult, music, hospitality and technology. Click below for more info on our ministries.
